NEW DELHI — Party officials flatly denied rumors of a state leadership tussle on Tuesday, clarifying that the current Chief Minister is simply being offered a Rajya Sabha seat and a "national role" to make room for his deputy to take over the state.
"Today, the entire discussion was only concentrated on the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections," a spokesperson said, dismissing reports of an internal power struggle stemming from a 2023 power-sharing agreement. "Any suggestions of a leadership change are completely unfounded. We are merely elevating the current Chief Minister to serve as our national OBC face for the 2029 elections, which naturally necessitates that someone else be Chief Minister immediately."
The ongoing negotiations, which the high command maintains are not happening, will also reportedly see the outgoing leader's son accommodated with a state cabinet position. Meanwhile, the party president is expected to secure his own Rajya Sabha re-election from the state as part of the broader routine election planning.
"There is absolutely no dispute, and the state government crossing the three-year mark is irrelevant," the spokesperson assured reporters, before excusing himself to finalize exactly which portfolios the Chief Minister's son will receive in exchange for his father vacating the office.
